Whenever I have a friend visit me in Bogota, they are always surprised to see just how much food five bucks can get you when I show them around local restaurants. As an expat who has lived here for a long time, I can tell you that the five buck lunch never gets old. So when my good friend Fernando got in touch with me for a catch-up lunch we decided to grab a corrientazo (a typical Colombian lunch) at a local seafood restaurant in the Chapinero neighbourhood.
We got a hot bowl of fish broth as a starter and as the main; braised cat fish with salad, patacones (fried green plantains), rice and a glass of fresh lemonade to boot. All this food for a whopping five bucks.
As a friend of mine would say, it’s a no risk play.
